As Yog has an old history which is counted as nearby 5,000 years old, Yogic Chikitsa or Yoga Therapy has also deep roots in ancient Indian civilization. It was practiced by great sages and Yogis to cure people from different problems. Indian philosophers mentioned three kinds of sickness and these were:-
Spiritual weakness generates the mental disturbance and after this physical sickness arises. In ancient times people were not suffering from the severe diseases as today in the modern time they are. Today most of the problems are generated by stress and fast lifestyle. It is because of extensive hard work, eating fast foods, pollution and distance from the nature. Chronic diseases like Cancer, Aids, Heart attack, Diabetes have been increased so fast all over the world.
According to Ayurveda,” Ya Kriyavyadhiharni sa Chikitsa nighadhayate.” Means after different kriyas, equipments and treatments by which diseases are dissolved is called Chikitsa or Therapy. Yogic Therapy is practiced with the knowledge of Yogic Science. All the Yogic resources (Yama-Niyama, Shatkarmas, Asanas, Pranayama, Bandhas and Mudras, Dhyana, Yogic diet) by which a patient recovers his health from the sickness is called Yogic Chikitsa or Yoga Therapy.
